I love that I started playing basketball again; it makes me feel great after an hour and a half, even though my feet are swollen, and generally feel like a wet rag that was run over by a Mack truck.
So…it was a drag last week when I hurt my lower back, after grabbing a rebound and twisting in an awkward way. I got the rebound, but as soon as I turned to run up the court I knew there were problems. A week later, my back is still barking at me. I could barely walk for 3 days, couldn’t ride my bike, couldn’t even sit in one spot for long.
This type of thing happens when you’re on an exercise program, creating big changes in your life. I would love to get back on the court and on the bike…but I don’t want to be stupid, putting myself in a more serious situation than some pulled muscles. Today I took my first walk (just a mile). I’m looking for the right balance because I’m desperate to get hitting it again, but not get injured again either.
Treat yourself right, but hit the streets as soon as you can. Take a brisk walk to warm the engine up a little, then maybe a tougher walk the next day, not forgetting to stretch out your body!
It’s a process, losing that weight, or so the experts tell me.
